Very Strong El Nino Expected Late 2026

The El Nino weather pattern is expected to become very strong by late 2026 and early 2027, according to the International Research Institute for Climate and Society (IRI). All 22 models surveyed by the IRI forecast very strong El Nino conditions through the 2026-27 winter, with a 100 per cent probability through February 2027. This development raises concerns over elevated climate risks for India, potentially impacting monsoon rainfall and crop output. The IRI also anticipates a strongly positive Indian Ocean Dipole during this period.
