Ambani, Adani Outlets Challenge Modi Govt's Privacy Law

The Hindu · india

Twenty-one Indian news publishers, including companies owned by billionaires Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani, have filed a lawsuit challenging the government's new privacy law. They argue the law, implemented last year to protect digital personal data, infringes on press freedom and could allow the government to identify journalists' sources. While assurances were given that press freedom would be protected, the lack of a formal exemption for media, unlike in the EU, Singapore, and Britain, has caused alarm.
