Times of India · environment
A 498-acre cattle ranch in Florida's Martin County, known as Turnpike Dairy, has been permanently protected from future development through a $7.48 million conservation easement. This agreement allows the family that has managed the property for generations to continue its agricultural operations while remaining in private ownership. Martin County contributed $3.74 million towards the easement, which preserves grazing pasture, wetlands, and bayheads vital for wildlife habitat. The ranch is part of Florida’s Rural and Family Lands Protection Program, aiming to preserve working farms and ranches against increasing development pressure.
