India Risks Being Least Educated Without Higher Education Push: IIT-Madras Director
Times of India · education
IIT-Madras Director V Kamakoti warned that India risks becoming one of the least educated countries if the current higher education enrolment ratio does not increase significantly within the next decade. He stated that the gross enrolment ratio (GER) is currently at 30%, and inadequate access to quality education for the large 15-35 age group is a major concern. Kamakoti referenced the National Education Policy's goal to raise GER to 50% by 2035, emphasizing that both government policies and citizen participation are crucial for achieving this target.
