Opposition Plans Fresh Impeachment Notice Against CEC

Opposition parties are reportedly planning to submit a fresh impeachment notice against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. This move follows an investigation revealing alleged dysfunction within the Election Commission, with two commissioners reportedly objecting to decisions. Kumar has served as CEC since February 19, 2025. The process for removing a CEC is similar to that of a Supreme Court judge, requiring proven misbehaviour or incapacity.

विपक्ष के नेता कथित तौर पर मुख्य चुनाव आयुक्त ज्ञानेश कुमार के खिलाफ एक नया महाभियोग नोटिस दाखिल करने की योजना बना रहे हैं। यह कदम चुनाव आयोग में कथित गड़बड़ी की जांच के बाद उठाया जा रहा है, जिसमें दो आयुक्तों ने फैसलों पर आपत्ति जताई थी। ज्ञानेश कुमार 19 फरवरी 2025 से मुख्य चुनाव आयुक्त के पद पर हैं। मुख्य चुनाव आयुक्त को हटाने की प्रक्रिया सुप्रीम कोर्ट के न्यायाधीशों के समान है, जिसमें सिद्ध कदाचार या अक्षमता की आवश्यकता होती है।
