Economist Surjit Bhalla has analyzed the removal of over 13 crore names from India's electoral rolls under the SIR. He suggests that approximately 70 lakh eligible voters might have been removed without a clear reason in states where the revision process is complete. Bhalla clarifies that the 13 crore figure includes names removed due to death, relocation, and duplication, which are legitimate reasons. He estimates that less than one in a hundred adults were incorrectly removed, countering claims of widespread disenfranchisement.
