Chinese AI Model Qwen Found to Censor Topics, Embed China-Friendly Narratives
CBS News · world
Research reveals that Qwen, a popular AI model from Alibaba downloaded over 3 billion times, exhibits censorship and promotes China-friendly viewpoints. The model avoids discussing sensitive topics like the 2019 Hong Kong protests, the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre, and labels Falun Gong a "dangerous cult." It also refuses to discuss Winnie the Pooh, likely due to comparisons between the character and Chinese President Xi Jinping. Cybersecurity startup Hirundo claims to have developed technology to remove this bias, planning to release a "Westernized" version.
