Jaunpur Cop Surrenders in Court Over Extortion

Former Sureri Station House Officer Divya Prakash Singh, who was a proclaimed offender with a ₹25,000 bounty, surrendered in a Jaunpur court. He arrived at the court with a gamcha covering his face, sparking discussions. Singh faces serious allegations of illegally detaining two youths from Jaunpur and Varanasi, torturing them in custody, and forcing them to transfer lakhs of rupees online. He was subsequently sent to judicial custody. The officer had gone missing after the suspicious death of a constable in Sureri police station.

पूर्व सुरेरी थाना प्रभारी दिव्या प्रकाश सिंह, जो ₹25,000 के इनामी उद्घोषित अपराधी थे, ने जौनपुर की एक अदालत में आत्मसमर्पण कर दिया। वह गमछे से चेहरा ढके हुए कोर्ट पहुंचे, जिससे चर्चाएं तेज हो गईं। सिंह पर जौनपुर और वाराणसी के दो युवकों को अवैध रूप से हिरासत में लेने, हिरासत में यातनाएं देने और उनसे ऑनलाइन लाखों रुपये ट्रांसफर कराने के गंभीर आरोप हैं। इसके बाद उन्हें न्यायिक हिरासत में भेज दिया गया। सुरेरी पुलिस स्टेशन में एक कांस्टेबल की संदिग्ध मौत के बाद अधिकारी लापता हो गए थे।
