Chennai Desilts Mambalam Canal Ahead of Monsoon

The Greater Chennai Corporation is set to desilt the 5.7km-long Mambalam Canal for ₹46.7 lakhs before the northeast Monsoon. Tenders have been floated to finalize a contractor who will deepen the waterway by four feet, covering key areas like T Nagar and Saidapet. The project aims to remove silt and blockages, widen the outfall point into the Adyar River, and increase the canal's carrying capacity from 200 to 500 cusecs.

चेन्नई कॉर्पोरेशन मानसून से पहले 46.7 लाख रुपये में 5.7 किमी लंबी माम्बाम कैनाल की सफाई कराएगा। टेंडर जारी हो गए हैं। ठेकेदार कैनाल को चार फीट गहरा करेगा, जिससे टी नगर और सैदापेट जैसे इलाकों को फायदा होगा। इसका मकसद गाद और रुकावटें हटाकर अड्यार नदी में पानी के बहाव को बढ़ाना है, जिससे कैनाल की क्षमता 200 से 500 क्यूसेक हो जाएगी।
