Karnataka Identifies 14 Lakh Groundwater Sources

Karnataka has identified 14.18 lakh wells, including borewells and open wells, used for agricultural activities as part of the seventh Minor Irrigation Census. The survey also mapped nearly 39,000 lakes and water bodies. The data, funded by the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti, uses 2023-24 as the reference year. Minister Ajay Singh stated the findings will aid scientific planning for irrigation and water conservation, prioritizing drought-affected areas and groundwater recharge.

कर्नाटक ने सातवीं लघु सिंचाई जनगणना के तहत खेती के लिए इस्तेमाल होने वाले 14.18 लाख कुओं (बोरवेल और खुले कुओं सहित) की पहचान की है। इस सर्वे में करीब 39,000 झीलों और जल निकायों का भी नक्शा बनाया गया है। केंद्रीय जल शक्ति मंत्रालय द्वारा वित्त पोषित इस डेटा के लिए 2023-24 को आधार वर्ष माना गया है। मंत्री अजय सिंह ने कहा कि इससे सिंचाई और जल संरक्षण की वैज्ञानिक योजना बनाने में मदद मिलेगी, खासकर सूखे से प्रभावित इलाकों और भूजल पुनर्भरण पर ध्यान दिया जाएगा।
