Oxford Study Suggests Animal Life Originated 200 Million Years Earlier
Times of India - India · india
A new Oxford University study proposes that animal life may have begun between 700 and 800 million years ago, potentially 200 million years earlier than current fossil evidence suggests. Researchers examined ancient fossil deposits in Mongolia, which contained exceptionally preserved microscopic organisms but no identifiable animal fossils, even from periods when animals were known to exist elsewhere. This finding challenges the assumption that the absence of animal fossils in older deposits, like China's Weng'an Biota, definitively proves animals had not yet evolved.
