SBI Chief Expects 50 bps Rate Hike in December, Citing Inflation
Business Standard · business
State Bank of India Chairman CS Setty anticipates a 50 basis points interest rate hike by the Reserve Bank of India in December, potentially pausing further increases until March 31. He noted that while higher rates may not immediately impact credit demand, rate-sensitive sectors relying on discretionary spending and borrowing could see moderation. Setty highlighted that robust credit growth is continuing despite the rate hikes, driven by demand from the real economy. He believes demand for credit for productive activities will remain strong, though consumption credit might be affected.
