Uniform Civil Code Committee Gets Office Space At Bengal's Writers' Buildings

The committee tasked with drafting Bengal's proposed Uniform Civil Code has been allocated three office rooms on the first floor of the historic Writers' Buildings. This will serve as their designated workspace, including a conference room and areas for officials and research teams. The committee, headed by retired Supreme Court judge Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, will hold its second meeting in this new office. The UCC aims to replace religion-specific personal laws with a unified framework for marriage, divorce, and succession, promoting gender equality across communities.

बंगाल की प्रस्तावित यूनिफॉर्म सिविल कोड का मसौदा तैयार करने वाली कमेटी को ऐतिहासिक राइटर्स बिल्डिंग्स की पहली मंजिल पर तीन ऑफिस कमरे आवंटित किए गए हैं। यह उनका निर्धारित कार्यस्थल होगा, जिसमें एक कॉन्फ्रेंस रूम और अधिकारियों व शोध टीमों के लिए जगह शामिल है। रिटायर्ड सुप्रीम कोर्ट जज जस्टिस रंजना प्रकाश देसाई की अध्यक्षता वाली कमेटी इसी नए ऑफिस में अपनी दूसरी बैठक करेगी। यूसीसी का उद्देश्य धर्म-विशिष्ट व्यक्तिगत कानूनों को विवाह, तलाक और उत्तराधिकार के लिए एक एकीकृत ढांचे से बदलना है, जिससे समुदायों में लैंगिक समानता को बढ़ावा मिले।
