Goa Authority Orders Beach Restoration, Cost Recovery From Violators

Times of India · environment

The Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) has ordered the deputy collector to restore a coastal property at Varca beach and recover costs from the violator. A complaint from the tourism department highlighted illegal sand extraction and alteration of natural features, including dunes and intertidal zones, by an earthmover. Site inspections confirmed gross violations of CRZ Notification 2011, noting permanent and temporary structures, dumped sandbags, and barricades obstructing beach access. Despite attempts to serve notices, the respondents' addresses were incomplete, leading the GCZMA to direct restoration and cost recovery.
