A 2,000-year-old Buddhist complex in Kashmir's Baramulla district is at high risk of collapse within three decades, according to a new study. Experts estimate that over 10,000 square metres of the Zehanpora site could be lost by 2050 without intervention. The study, published in Ancient Asia, used remote sensing and GIS to analyse soil erosion and land changes along the Jhelum River bank. Researchers noted the highest erosion rates occurred between 1989 and 2000. The findings provide a data-driven basis for policymakers to implement active conservation measures.
