India Permits 6,500 Tonnes Silver Imports Amidst Weak Demand

Business Standard · business

India has authorized the import of approximately 6,500 metric tons of silver over the next six months, aiming to meet anticipated festive season demand. This move comes despite currently weak domestic demand for silver jewellery and investments. Higher imports by India, which imports over 80% of its silver, could help stabilize global prices and reduce high domestic premiums caused by supply shortages. Silver premiums have already dropped significantly from $2.50 to 45 cents per ounce.
