Indian Bonds Steady As RBI Minutes Hint At More Rate Hikes
Economic Times Markets · stocks
Indian bonds remained largely unchanged on Thursday, with the benchmark yield hovering around 7.45%. Minutes from the Reserve Bank of India's latest policy meeting revealed that rate-setting panel members believe further interest rate hikes may be necessary to combat inflation. The RBI had previously increased the repo rate to 5.50% and signaled a "calibrated tightening" stance, suggesting more increases are possible. Market expectations are fueled by comments hinting at interest rate defense of the currency, potentially leading to an outsized hike in December.
