India's BrahMos-2 Missile May Achieve Hypersonic Speeds

Aaj Tak · technology

India is reportedly developing the next generation of its BrahMos missile, potentially named BrahMos-2, inspired by Russia's 3M22 Zircon hypersonic system. This new missile could achieve speeds exceeding 7,408 km/hr, double that of the current BrahMos. The project, a collaboration between DRDO and Russia's NPO Mashinostroyeniya, aims to integrate Russian scramjet engine technology with Indian electronics and guidance systems. While a 1500 km range is speculated, official confirmation is pending. Challenges include high costs and technology transfer issues, with flight tests unlikely before 2027-28.
