Supreme Court Seeks Delhi Police Reply On Journalist Harassment Allegations

The Supreme Court has asked the Centre, Delhi government, and Delhi Police to respond to a Public Interest Litigation filed by the NGO 'Network of Women in Media'. The NGO seeks an independent probe, led by a retired woman judge, into alleged sexual harassment of women journalists during protests. Senior advocate Indira Jaising highlighted a case where a journalist was allegedly molested by a police officer, who then filed a caste-based FIR against her.

सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने केंद्र, दिल्ली सरकार और दिल्ली पुलिस से 'नेटवर्क ऑफ वुमेन इन मीडिया' नामक NGO द्वारा दायर एक जनहित याचिका पर जवाब मांगा है। NGO प्रदर्शनों के दौरान महिला पत्रकारों के कथित यौन उत्पीड़न की जांच एक सेवानिवृत्त महिला न्यायाधीश के नेतृत्व में स्वतंत्र रूप से कराने की मांग कर रहा है। वरिष्ठ वकील इंदिरा जयसिंह ने एक ऐसे मामले पर प्रकाश डाला जहां एक पत्रकार पर कथित तौर पर एक पुलिस अधिकारी ने छेड़छाड़ की, जिसने बाद में उसके खिलाफ जाति-आधारित FIR दर्ज की।
