Sengol Jeweller Vummidi Ethiraj Dies At 99; PM Modi Mourns Loss

Vummidi Ethiraj, the renowned South Indian jeweller who crafted the historic Sengol, passed away in Chennai at the age of 99. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sadness, remembering Ethiraj's significant contribution to crafting the sacred symbol presented to former Prime Minister Nehru. Modi highlighted the government's honour in placing the Sengol in the new Parliament building in 2023, recalling his meeting with Ethiraj. The Vice President also paid tribute, acknowledging Ethiraj's invaluable role in preserving India's jewellery craftsmanship heritage. Ethiraj was the patriarch of the 125-year-old Vummidi Bangaru Jewellers.

दक्षिण भारत के मशहूर ज्वेलर वुम्मिडी एथिराज, जिन्होंने ऐतिहासिक सेनगोल तैयार किया था, का चेन्नई में 99 साल की उम्र में निधन हो गया। प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने गहरा दुख व्यक्त किया और पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री नेहरू को सौंपे गए पवित्र प्रतीक को बनाने में एथिराज के महत्वपूर्ण योगदान को याद किया। मोदी ने 2023 में नए संसद भवन में सेनगोल की स्थापना में सरकार के सम्मान का उल्लेख किया और एथिराज से अपनी मुलाकात को याद किया। उपराष्ट्रपति ने भी श्रद्धांजलि अर्पित की और भारत की ज्वैलरी शिल्प विरासत को संरक्षित करने में एथिराज की अमूल्य भूमिका को स्वीकार किया। एथिराज 125 साल पुराने वुम्मिडी बंगारू ज्वैलर्स के मुखिया थे।
