Maharashtra's Peak Power Demand Hits Record High Amid Heatwave and Drought
Times of India · india
Maharashtra's peak electricity demand reached 32,507 MW, the highest this month, driven by unseasonably high temperatures and increased agricultural pump usage due to drought. Rainfall scarcity, particularly in Marathwada and Vidarbha, has forced farmers to rely on irrigation, while higher daytime temperatures boosted residential consumption. MSEDCL reported a 25% increase in peak demand compared to last year, with expectations of further surges. This surge highlights the strain on the state's power infrastructure during the pre-winter months.
