ओडिशा पुलिस ने रायगढ़ा जिले में छह महीने पुराने संघर्ष के संबंध में आदिवासी अधिकार कार्यकर्ताओं डॉ रैंडल सीक्वेरा और लक्ष्मण नाइक को गिरफ्तार किया है। 16 अक्टूबर को की गई गिरफ्तारियां अप्रैल की एक घटना से जुड़ी हैं, जहां कथित तौर पर स्थानीय लोगों ने खनन के विरोध में विरोध प्रदर्शन के दौरान सुरक्षा कर्मियों पर हमला किया था। पुलिस का दावा है कि कार्यकर्ताओं ने हिंसा भड़काई और उन पर हत्या के प्रयास सहित गंभीर आरोप लगाए हैं। एक नागरिक समाज समूह ने गिरफ्तारियों की निंदा करते हुए आरोप लगाया है कि उनका उद्देश्य अन्याय और प्राकृतिक संसाधन अधिकारों के खिलाफ आदिवासी विरोध को दबाना है।
