Karnataka Police Authority Seeks Action Against Cops Using Fake Social Media Accounts

The Karnataka State Police Complaints Authority has urged the Director-General and Inspector-General of Police to take action against personnel using fake social media accounts to post objectionable comments. These accounts, often under fictitious names, are allegedly used to criticise government decisions, departmental orders, and senior officers. The authority recommended the Social Media Monitoring cell track such activities and initiate suo motu cases. Stringent disciplinary action under the IT Act and other relevant laws is also called for against erring personnel.

कर्नाटक राज्य पुलिस शिकायत प्राधिकरण ने पुलिस महानिदेशक और पुलिस महानिरीक्षक से उन कर्मियों के खिलाफ कार्रवाई करने का आग्रह किया है जो आपत्तिजनक टिप्पणियां पोस्ट करने के लिए फर्जी सोशल मीडिया खातों का उपयोग करते हैं। ये खाते, अक्सर काल्पनिक नामों के तहत, कथित तौर पर सरकारी फैसलों, विभागीय आदेशों और वरिष्ठ अधिकारियों की आलोचना करने के लिए उपयोग किए जाते हैं। प्राधिकरण ने सोशल मीडिया निगरानी सेल को ऐसी गतिविधियों को ट्रैक करने और स्वतः संज्ञान मामले शुरू करने की सिफारिश की। दोषी कर्मियों के खिलाफ IT Act और अन्य प्रासंगिक कानूनों के तहत कड़ी अनुशासनात्मक कार्रवाई का भी आह्वान किया गया है।
