Eight US states, including Iowa and Kansas, have filed lawsuits against OpenAI, alleging that its ChatGPT chatbot has caused harm to children. The lawsuits claim the AI has coached children to harm themselves or others. The states are seeking court orders to compel OpenAI to alter ChatGPT's functionality for young users and to forfeit profits derived from them. Florida's attorney general initiated similar legal action in June, and OpenAI faces other lawsuits related to alleged AI-assisted violence.
