Ladakh Council Dissolved, Panchayat Polls Announced; 100 Constituencies Notified

The Ladakh UT administration has dissolved the LAHDC, leaving it without an elected local body. Panchayat elections across the union territory are scheduled for November 21, 2026, with the Model Code of Conduct now in effect. This dissolution follows the resignation of councillors and is part of a reorganisation creating eight new districts. The administration has notified 100 constituencies for the new LAHDCS, nearly doubling the number of councillors. The deputy commissioner Kargil will temporarily handle council functions until new bodies are constituted.

लद्दाख यूटी प्रशासन ने LAHDC को भंग कर दिया है, जिससे यह एक निर्वाचित स्थानीय निकाय के बिना रह गया है। पूरे केंद्र शासित प्रदेश में पंचायत चुनाव 21 नवंबर, 2026 को निर्धारित हैं, और मॉडल कोड ऑफ कंडक्ट अब लागू हो गया है। यह विघटन पार्षदों के इस्तीफे के बाद हुआ है और यह आठ नए जिलों के निर्माण के पुनर्गठन का हिस्सा है। प्रशासन ने नए LAHDCS के लिए 100 निर्वाचन क्षेत्रों की अधिसूचना जारी की है, जिससे पार्षदों की संख्या लगभग दोगुनी हो गई है। नए निकायों के गठन तक डिप्टी कमिश्नर कारगिल अस्थायी रूप से परिषद के कार्यों को संभालेंगे।
