Indonesia's Rhinos Critically Endangered, Far Rarer Than African Counterparts
Hindustan Times · environment
Indonesia's two native rhino species, the Sumatran and Javan rhinos, are critically endangered and far closer to extinction than their African relatives. Less than 50 Sumatran rhinos remain, all in Indonesia, while only around 50 Javan rhinos exist, confined to a single national park. Their precarious situation is exacerbated by habitat fragmentation and vulnerability to natural disasters. Conservation efforts, like the Sumatran Rhino Sanctuary, are underway but face immense challenges in saving these unique animals from disappearing forever.
