Noida DM moves SC over NSA detention rebuke

Noida District Magistrate Medha Roopam has approached the Supreme Court following a reprimand from the Allahabad High Court. The High Court had quashed the detention of student protester Akriti Chaudhary under the National Security Act, calling the case "concocted". The court also ordered a Rs 5 lakh compensation deduction from Roopam's salary and warned of a "dystopia" if bureaucracy acted "despotically".

नोएडा की डीएम मेधा रूपम ने इलाहाबाद हाई कोर्ट की फटकार के बाद सुप्रीम कोर्ट का दरवाजा खटखटाया है। हाई कोर्ट ने छात्र प्रदर्शनकारी आकृति चौधरी की NSA के तहत हिरासत को रद्द करते हुए मामले को "मनगढ़ंत" बताया था। कोर्ट ने रूपम के वेतन से 5 लाख रुपये की कटौती का आदेश दिया और नौकरशाही के "तानाशाही" रवैये पर "भयावह स्थिति" की चेतावनी दी।
