CPI(M) Slams Minister's Suggestion to Link Biometrics, Voter ID for Welfare Benefits
The Hindu · india
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has criticised Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh's suggestion to replace Aadhaar with biometrics and voter identity cards for welfare disbursals. The party called this move an "assault on the rural poor," urging its withdrawal. CPI(M) argued that biometric authentication has previously denied benefits to many, especially elderly women and manual labourers. They also noted that electronic KYC excludes households without smartphones, and linking this to electoral roll revisions could worsen exclusion for marginalised groups.
Communist Party of India (Marxist)
