18th IDSFFK Concludes Without Screening 5 Competition Films Denied Censor Exemption

The 18th International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala (IDSFFK) concluded in Thiruvananthapuram without screening five competition films. These films were denied censor exemption by the Union Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, and the Kerala High Court also refused permission for provisional screening. Despite the absence of these films, directors of the "banned" works were honoured at the closing ceremony. Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan stated the government would arrange screenings once court clearance is obtained, emphasizing the fight for curatorial freedom.

केरल के 18वें अंतर्राष्ट्रीय डॉक्यूमेंट्री और लघु फिल्म महोत्सव (IDSFFK) का तिरुवनंतपुरम में समापन हो गया, लेकिन प्रतियोगिता की पांच फिल्में दिखाई नहीं गईं। केंद्रीय सूचना एवं प्रसारण मंत्रालय ने इन फिल्मों को सेंसर से छूट देने से इनकार कर दिया था, और केरल हाईकोर्ट ने भी इन्हें अस्थायी रूप से दिखाने की अनुमति देने से मना कर दिया था। इन फिल्मों के न होने के बावजूद, 'प्रतिबंधित' फिल्मों के निर्देशकों को समापन समारोह में सम्मानित किया गया। मुख्यमंत्री वी.डी. सतीसन ने कहा कि अदालत से मंजूरी मिलने के बाद सरकार इनकी स्क्रीनिंग की व्यवस्था करेगी, और क्यूरेटोरियल स्वतंत्रता के लिए लड़ाई पर जोर दिया।
