Groundwater samples from Nashik's Datta Nagar neighbourhood have revealed alarming levels of hexavalent chromium, measuring 50.3 mg per litre, which is nearly 1,000 times the permissible limit of 0.05 mg per litre. This contamination has prompted an emergency crackdown on local industries, with 15 units already facing closure notices or being sealed. Health concerns are rising, with 19 residents showing skin ailments, and the contamination poses a significant risk to the estimated 25,000 people in the area.
