Scientists predict Earth's plant life will likely cease to exist in approximately 1.8 billion years. The Sun's gradual increase in brightness will eventually make the planet too hot for vegetation to survive. While dramatic disaster scenarios are common in fiction, this extinction event will be a slow fade.
