Manipur Violence Inquiry Commission Gets Sixth Extension Until May 2027

The Commission of Inquiry into the Manipur violence has received its sixth extension, with the Cabinet approving a further year until May 20, 2027, to submit its report. Originally constituted in September 2023, the commission was tasked with investigating the causes and spread of the ethnic violence that began on May 3, 2023. It was also meant to examine official lapses and the adequacy of preventive measures. The ongoing ethnic conflict has resulted in over 300 deaths and displaced thousands, exacerbating divisions between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities.

मणिपुर हिंसा की जांच कर रहे आयोग को छठी बार मोहलत मिल गई है। कैबिनेट ने अपनी रिपोर्ट सौंपने के लिए 20 मई 2027 तक एक साल का और विस्तार मंजूर कर दिया है। मूल रूप से सितंबर 2023 में गठित इस आयोग को 3 मई 2023 को शुरू हुई जातीय हिंसा के कारणों और फैलाव की जांच करने का काम सौंपा गया था। इसका उद्देश्य सरकारी चूक और निवारक उपायों की पर्याप्तता की भी जांच करना था। चल रहे जातीय संघर्ष में 300 से अधिक लोग मारे गए हैं और हजारों लोग विस्थापित हुए हैं, जिससे मैतेई और कुकी-जो समुदायों के बीच विभाजन और बढ़ गया है।
