Fourteen people have died and seven others were injured following the collapse of an illegal gold mine in southwestern Colombia. The accident occurred in the rural Chambero sector of the Santa Barbara de Iscuande municipality in Narino department. Search and rescue operations have concluded, with authorities reporting an additional 12 to 15 miners missing. Informal and unregulated mining is common in rural Colombia due to a lack of safety infrastructure, frequently leading to fatal accidents.
