Jackfruit Peel Innovation Removes Over 90% of Fluoride From Water

Researchers at NIT Rourkela have developed a novel method using jackfruit peel to purify water. They converted the discarded peel into activated carbon, modified it with zirconium, and found it removed over 90% of harmful fluoride from contaminated water in laboratory tests. This innovation could offer a more affordable solution for families suffering from fluorosis, a condition caused by excessive fluoride intake damaging teeth and bones. The material achieved high removal efficiencies within approximately 10 to 20 minutes, presenting a promising alternative to existing water treatment methods.

NIT Rourkela के रिसर्चर्स ने कटहल के छिलके से पानी साफ करने का एक नया तरीका निकाला है। उन्होंने फेंके जाने वाले छिलके को एक्टिवेटेड कार्बन में बदला, उसमें ज़िरकोनियम मिलाया और पाया कि लैब टेस्ट में यह गंदे पानी से 90% से ज़्यादा हानिकारक फ्लोराइड हटा देता है। यह नई खोज उन परिवारों के लिए सस्ता समाधान दे सकती है जो फ्लोरोसिस से पीड़ित हैं, यह एक ऐसी बीमारी है जो ज़्यादा फ्लोराइड लेने से दांतों और हड्डियों को नुकसान पहुंचाती है। यह मटेरियल लगभग 10 से 20 मिनट में फ्लोराइड को हटाने में बहुत असरदार रहा, जो पानी साफ करने के मौजूदा तरीकों का एक अच्छा विकल्प है।
