The Supreme Court has imposed a ₹6 lakh fine on the Uttar Pradesh Police for wrongfully imprisoning an individual for six years without sufficient evidence. The court reprimanded the police for their inadequate investigation in a case from Agra, where a man was jailed for murder and evidence tampering charges. Justices MB Pardiwala and Vinod Chandran stated that the man's life was ruined based on a fabricated story. The bench directed the UP Police to train its officers in proper investigation procedures.

सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने एक व्यक्ति को पर्याप्त सबूत के बिना छह साल तक गलत तरीके से जेल में रखने के लिए उत्तर प्रदेश पुलिस पर ₹6 लाख का जुर्माना लगाया है। कोर्ट ने आगरा के एक मामले में पुलिस की अपर्याप्त जांच के लिए फटकार लगाई, जहां एक व्यक्ति को हत्या और सबूतों से छेड़छाड़ के आरोपों में जेल भेजा गया था। जस्टिस एमबी परदीवाला और विनोद चंद्रन ने कहा कि एक मनगढ़ंत कहानी के आधार पर उस व्यक्ति का जीवन बर्बाद हो गया। बेंच ने यूपी पुलिस को अपने अधिकारियों को उचित जांच प्रक्रियाओं में प्रशिक्षित करने का निर्देश दिया।
