Wildfires Devastate Giant Sequoias, Threatening Survival

Wildfires have destroyed 17% of mature giant sequoias since 2015, leaving many groves vulnerable. Only 26% of remaining areas show high wildfire resistance, necessitating restoration efforts in 44 groves. Warmer winters and dry spells increase the risk of future devastating fires. These ancient trees require fire for reproduction, but current intense wildfires are proving lethal, highlighting a critical ecological challenge.

साल 2015 से अब तक जंगलों की आग ने विशालकाय सिकोइया पेड़ों के 17% हिस्से को तबाह कर दिया है, जिससे कई जंगल खतरे में हैं। बचे हुए इलाकों में से सिर्फ 26% ही आग का सामना करने में सक्षम हैं। इसलिए 44 जगहों पर इन पेड़ों को फिर से उगाने की ज़रूरत है। गर्म सर्दियाँ और सूखा भविष्य में और भी भयानक आग का खतरा बढ़ा रहे हैं। इन पुराने पेड़ों को प्रजनन के लिए आग की ज़रूरत होती है, लेकिन आजकल की भीषण आग जानलेवा साबित हो रही है।
