Delhi HC Proposes Surprise Toilet Inspections By Social Work Students

To assess conditions, the court proposed surprise inspections of toilets under the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) by student teams from three social work colleges. These students will report on hygiene and maintenance, including photographic evidence, and will receive an honorarium for their work. The court noted that despite MCD efforts, results remain unsatisfactory, emphasizing the need for better oversight and accountability for sanitation officials.

दिल्ली हाईकोर्ट ने कहा है कि साफ़-सुथरे सार्वजनिक शौचालयों तक पहुँच जीवन के अधिकार का एक अहम हिस्सा है। हालात का जायज़ा लेने के लिए, कोर्ट ने म्युनिसिपल कॉर्पोरेशन ऑफ दिल्ली (MCD) के तहत आने वाले शौचालयों का तीन सामाजिक कार्य कॉलेजों के छात्र दलों द्वारा अचानक निरीक्षण करने का प्रस्ताव दिया है। ये छात्र स्वच्छता और रखरखाव पर रिपोर्ट देंगे, जिसमें तस्वीरों के ज़रिए सबूत भी शामिल होंगे, और उन्हें उनके काम के लिए मानदेय मिलेगा। कोर्ट ने कहा कि MCD के प्रयासों के बावजूद नतीजे असंतोषजनक हैं, और स्वच्छता अधिकारियों के लिए बेहतर निगरानी और जवाबदेही की ज़रूरत पर ज़ोर दिया।
