Gujarat HC Seeks ASI Reply on Bharuch Mosque Dispute

The Gujarat High Court has asked the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to respond to a petition filed by Jain and Hindu community members. They seek to declare the 14th-century Jami Masjid of Bharuch a Jain-Hindu temple, named Ashwabodh Tirth and Shakunika Vihar. Petitioners claim ASI has wrongly identified the monument as a mosque since 1909, citing new evidence of idols in the basement. They fear damage to idols and want permission to worship on the premises.

गुजरात हाई कोर्ट ने जैन और हिंदू समुदाय के सदस्यों द्वारा दायर एक याचिका पर भारतीय पुरातत्व सर्वेक्षण (ASI) से जवाब मांगा है। वे भरूच की 14वीं सदी की जामी मस्जिद को अश्वबोध तीर्थ और शकुनिका विहार नाम से जैन-हिंदू मंदिर घोषित करने की मांग कर रहे हैं। याचिकाकर्ताओं का दावा है कि ASI ने 1909 से इस स्मारक को गलत तरीके से मस्जिद के रूप में पहचाना है, और उन्होंने तहखाने में मूर्तियों की नई मौजूदगी का हवाला दिया है। उन्हें मूर्तियों को नुकसान पहुंचने का डर है और वे परिसर में पूजा करने की अनुमति चाहते हैं।
