El Nino Intensifying Ahead Of December Peak, WMO Warns
Business Standard · environment
The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has announced that El Nino conditions over the equatorial Pacific are intensifying and are expected to peak in December. This phenomenon is predicted to bring above-average global temperatures and is likely to persist through February 2027, potentially becoming one of the strongest since 1950. El Nino, known for causing less monsoon rainfall in India, has already contributed to this year's below-average monsoon. Its continued strengthening poses severe risks, including coral bleaching, increased wildfires, and extreme heat, which could devastate farmers and fishers.
