British Prime Minister Andy Burnham has stated the UK is open to apologising for its role in the transatlantic slave trade but has ruled out reparations. He expressed personal sorrow and regret for the immense suffering caused by the trade, which lasted from the 16th to 19th centuries. Burnham's comments come ahead of a Commonwealth summit hosted in Antigua and Barbuda. While some Caribbean nations seek more, opposition figures have criticised the move. Britain transported over 3.1 million Africans, with many perishing at sea.
