The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has called for a nationwide National Register of Citizens (NRC), citing the need to address population imbalance and protect national unity, integrity, and security. RSS publicity in-charge Sunil Ambekar stated that identifying citizens is necessary, especially for those who may have been wrongly included in electoral rolls or who have come from neighbouring countries under the CAA. The debate around NRC has resurfaced amid the ongoing Census exercise, which includes questions similar to those in the National Population Register.
