India has directed oil marketing companies to set sugar diversion for ethanol production to zero for the 2026-27 supply year, excluding ethanol from sugarcane juice, sugar syrup, and B-heavy molasses. This move underscores the tension between meeting ethanol blending targets and ensuring sufficient domestic sugar supplies, especially amid concerns over reduced rainfall impacting output and driving prices to record highs.
