Yosemite's Rare Frogs Rebounding After 1897 Trout Stocking Ended

Hindustan Times · environment

Yosemite National Park is witnessing a significant comeback of the Sierra Nevada yellow-legged frog, a species once on the brink of extinction. This recovery is attributed to the park's decision to cease stocking non-native trout in its lakes, a practice that began in 1897 and continued until 1990. The introduction of trout had decimated frog populations by preying on them and competing for food.
