Red-naped Ibises Carry Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria

A recent study has revealed that red-naped ibises can carry antibiotic-resistant bacteria, highlighting that this resistance is not limited to humans. Birds acquire these resistant bacteria from contaminated environments like water and waste. As they travel, these ibises can potentially spread these bacteria through their droppings. This makes them significant indicators for monitoring the movement and spread of antibiotic resistance across different habitats.
