BIS Hikes Gold Hallmarking Fee Ahead of Festivals

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has increased the hallmarking fee for gold articles to ₹75 from ₹45, effective immediately. This revision, notified through BIS (Hallmarking) Amendment Regulations, 2026, comes just ahead of the festive season. The fee for silver articles remains unchanged at ₹35. The All India Gem and Jewellery Domestic Council has expressed concern, urging a review of the nearly 67% hike and advocating for stakeholder consultation before implementing such changes.

भारतीय मानक ब्यूरो (BIS) ने सोने के गहनों पर हॉलमार्किंग की फीस ₹45 से बढ़ाकर ₹75 कर दी है, जो तुरंत लागू हो गई है। यह बढ़ोत्तरी त्योहारी सीजन से ठीक पहले हुई है। चांदी के गहनों पर फीस ₹35 ही रहेगी। ऑल इंडिया जेम एंड ज्वेलरी डोमेस्टिक काउंसिल ने इस लगभग 67% की वृद्धि पर चिंता जताई है और इसे वापस लेने की मांग की है।
