Air India Cancels Toronto Flight Last Minute; Commission Upholds Rs 1.34 Lakh Payout

A Chandigarh consumer commission has upheld an order directing Air India and a travel agency to refund Rs 1.08 lakh to a passenger. Their daughter and two others were stranded after a connecting flight to Toronto was cancelled at the last minute. The commission also upheld Rs 15,000 compensation and Rs 10,000 litigation costs. The companies failed to refund the amount they were liable for, constituting deficiency in service. The passengers had to book fresh tickets on another airline at significant additional cost.

चंडीगढ़ की एक उपभोक्ता आयोग ने एयर इंडिया और एक ट्रैवल एजेंसी को एक यात्री को ₹1.08 लाख वापस करने का आदेश दिया है। उनकी बेटी और दो अन्य लोग टोरंटो के लिए कनेक्टिंग फ्लाइट आखिरी मिनट में रद्द होने के बाद फंस गए थे। आयोग ने ₹15,000 का मुआवजा और ₹10,000 का मुकदमेबाजी खर्च भी बरकरार रखा। कंपनियों ने वह राशि वापस करने में विफल रहीं जिसके लिए वे उत्तरदायी थीं, जो सेवा में कमी का गठन करता है। यात्रियों को काफी अतिरिक्त लागत पर दूसरी एयरलाइन पर नए टिकट बुक करने पड़े।
