CPCB Backs Rs 61.9 Crore Fine on 6 Thermal Plants For Biomass Co-firing Failure

CPCB has defended the Rs 61.9 crore environmental compensation imposed by the CAQM on six thermal power plants. These plants failed to meet mandatory biomass co-firing requirements for the 2024-25 period. The largest penalties were levied on a plant in Punjab (Rs 33 crore) and Panipat Thermal Power Station (Rs 8.9 crore). The plants appealed the fines, citing sourcing and technical difficulties.

CPCB ने CAQM द्वारा छह थर्मल पावर प्लांटों पर लगाए गए 61.9 करोड़ रुपये के पर्यावरण मुआवजे का बचाव किया है। ये प्लांट 2024-25 की अवधि के लिए अनिवार्य बायोमास सह-ईंधन की आवश्यकताओं को पूरा करने में विफल रहे। सबसे बड़े जुर्माने पंजाब के एक प्लांट (33 करोड़ रुपये) और पानीपत थर्मल पावर स्टेशन (8.9 करोड़ रुपये) पर लगाए गए थे। प्लांटों ने सोर्सिंग और तकनीकी कठिनाइयों का हवाला देते हुए जुर्माने की अपील की थी।
