France to equip Rafale jets with new anti-radar missile variant

Times of India · technology

France is developing a new variant of the AASM Hammer precision-guided weapon, the Hammer XLR, to enhance its capability to suppress and destroy enemy air defenses. This new variant features a miniature turbojet engine, offering extended range for striking targets in heavily defended areas. The development aims to restore a capability France lost with the retirement of its anti-radiation missiles in the 1990s. The Indian Air Force, which already uses the standard Hammer on its Rafales, could benefit from this advancement, especially with plans for domestic Hammer production.
