Kasaragod's archaeological heritage is integral to Kerala's history, says Minister

Kerala's Minister for Archaeology, O.J. Janeesh, stated that Kasaragod's history is essential for a complete understanding of Keralam's past. He inaugurated the Kasaragod Archaeological Survey 2026, a government initiative to identify and document historical and archaeological evidence in the district. Known as the 'Land of Forts', Kasaragod boasts Megalithic monuments and Iron Age laterite caves, with a history shaped by various rulers including the Vijayanagara empire and European powers. This survey aims to systematically record the rich heritage of the region.

केरल के पुरातत्व मंत्री ओ.जे. जनीश ने कहा कि केरलम के अतीत को पूरी तरह समझने के लिए कासरगोड का इतिहास बहुत ज़रूरी है। उन्होंने कासरगोड पुरातत्व सर्वेक्षण 2026 का उद्घाटन किया, जो जिले में ऐतिहासिक और पुरातात्विक साक्ष्यों की पहचान और दस्तावेज़ीकरण के लिए एक सरकारी पहल है। 'किलों की भूमि' के नाम से मशहूर कासरगोड में मेगालिथिक स्मारक और लौह युग की लेटरराइट गुफाएं हैं, जिसका इतिहास विजयनगर साम्राज्य और यूरोपीय शक्तियों सहित विभिन्न शासकों से प्रभावित रहा है। इस सर्वेक्षण का उद्देश्य क्षेत्र की समृद्ध विरासत को व्यवस्थित रूप से दर्ज करना है।
