Utah Canyon Blasting Plan Faces Lawsuit Over Historic Sites

Times of India · environment

Conservation groups have filed a federal lawsuit challenging the US Bureau of Land Management's approval to widen Gate Canyon Road in Utah. The project involves blasting 100-foot canyon cliffs to accommodate oil trucks, but plaintiffs warn it threatens at least 47 historic sites, including 19th-century inscriptions by Buffalo Soldiers and European pioneers. The lawsuit also raises concerns about potential damage to Native American rock art in the adjacent Nine Mile Canyon, described as the 'world's longest art gallery'.
